    1. Basic Principles
    LED street lights achieve lighting functions by emitting light through light-emitting diodes (LEDs). The core is the LED chip. When current passes through the chip, electrons and holes in the semiconductor material recombine, releasing energy in the form of photons to produce visible light. The optical system of the LED street light effectively collects, guides and distributes this light to illuminate the road.
    2. Main components
    LED light source module
    Chip: It is the key part of the street light emission, which determines the color, brightness and luminous efficiency of the light. The quality and performance of the chip directly affect the overall lighting effect of the street light. For example, the use of high-quality gallium nitride (GaN)-based chips can achieve higher brightness and better energy saving effects.
    Packaging materials: Used to protect the chip from external environmental interference, such as dust, moisture, etc. At the same time, the optical properties of the packaging material play a key role in the light output efficiency and uniformity of the light. Some packaging materials also contain phosphors to adjust the color temperature of the light.
    Optical lens or reflector
    Optical lenses can accurately control the distribution of light and focus or diffuse the light to the area that needs to be illuminated. Reflectors change the direction of light propagation through the principle of reflection, so that the light is evenly spread on the road surface, reducing glare and improving lighting efficiency. Their design is customized according to factors such as road type, street lamp installation height and spacing to ensure that the lighting meets road lighting standards.
    Heat dissipation system
    Since LED chips generate heat during operation, an effective heat dissipation system is essential. Radiators are usually made of materials with good heat dissipation performance such as aluminum alloy, and their structures include fin type, heat pipe type and other forms. Good heat dissipation can ensure that LED chips work at a suitable temperature, extend the service life of street lamps and maintain stable luminous performance.
    Driver power supply
    The driver power supply converts the input AC power into stable DC power to provide the appropriate current and voltage for the LED light source. It needs to have high efficiency, high reliability and good anti-interference ability. A high-quality driver power supply can adapt to different grid voltage fluctuations to ensure the stable operation of street lamps, and also has functions such as short-circuit protection and over-temperature protection.
    III. Performance characteristics
    High efficiency and energy saving
    LED street lamps have significant energy-saving advantages. Compared with traditional high-pressure sodium lamps, LED street lamps can have much higher luminous efficiency, usually reaching 100-150 lm/W or more. This means that when achieving the same road lighting effect, LED street lamps consume less electricity, which can significantly reduce energy costs. For example, in some urban road lighting renovation projects, after replacing with LED street lamps, electricity bills can be saved by 50%-70%.
    Long life
    LED street lamps have a long service life, generally up to 30,000-50,000 hours. This is mainly because LED light sources do not have easily damaged parts such as filaments, and their performance can remain stable for a long time under reasonable heat dissipation and working conditions. In contrast, the life of traditional high-pressure sodium lamps is usually around 10,000-20,000 hours, which reduces the manpower and material costs of frequent replacement of street lamps.
    High color rendering
    The color rendering index (CRI) is an indicator of the ability of a light source to restore the color of an object. LED street lights have a high color rendering index, generally reaching 70-80 or more, and some high-end products can reach around 90. High color rendering can more realistically present the colors of objects on the road, such as the colors of vehicles, pedestrians, and road signs, which helps to improve traffic safety and visual comfort.
    Low light decay
    During long-term use, the light decay of LED street lights is relatively small. After thousands of hours of use, the luminous flux of high-quality LED street lights can still be maintained at more than 70%-80% of the initial value. This ensures that the road can maintain a good lighting level for a long time, and there will be no insufficient lighting due to light decay.
    Strong intelligent control capability
    LED street lights are easy to achieve intelligent control. By adding light sensors, timers, or connecting to the Internet of Things system, functions such as automatic dimming, time-sharing control, and remote monitoring can be realized. For example, when there is less traffic at night, the brightness can be automatically reduced to further save energy; at the same time, managers can understand the working status of street lights in real time through the remote monitoring system, which is convenient for timely maintenance.

    Urban road lighting
